Don’t worry. I didn’t shift gears on you since it’s election season. I’m not going to get on my soapbox and outline my platform on education.
I am however going to encourage you to read the manifesto below. It’s called Stop Stealing Dreams by Seth Godin. It was released a few days ago and it’s free. I’ve mentioned and linked to him on this blog before.
I am a huge fan of his work. No author/blogger consistently challenges my thinking or shows me a new perspective more frequently.
It’s not something you’ll likely read right now, unless you have a few hours, but I would encourage to find the time at some point.
I haven’t even finished the whole thing and I am recommending it. It will poke, prod, and provoke you and your beliefs about education – why formal school systems started, how they are failing us today, and what they could be.
You probably won’t agree with it all, I don’t either. That’s not the point. It’s designed to challenge the status quo, to start conversations, and debates. Ultimately, it’s goal is action and movement in a new direction.
If you are a parent or teacher this is a must read. There are several versions of the book available – Kindle, PDF, etc.
